Address Book

An address book is traditionally a type of book that people use to store details of addresses and contact numbers for their friends and family. Nowadays, although most people still have an address book of this type, many will also have some form of computer based or mobile address book on the go as well.

Traditional address books come in a range of shapes, sizes and costs. You can buy anything from a small pocket or handbag sized address book here for a few pounds through to larger books that are less portable and that may be kept on a desk and designer books. The larger and more exclusive the book you use here, the more it is likely to cost you.

Most address books work in much the same way. They come with a range of index tabbed pages that are all marked with letters of the alphabet from A to Z. Each letter will have a few pages attached to it where you are supposed to write down your contact details such as names, addresses and telephone numbers.

Some address books also have other uses -- some for example may also contain a section that works as a birthday book. In some cases other stationery products may also have an address book element. For example, many diaries will have a section at the front or the back where you can write down this kind of information.

There are also a variety of online and mobile address book options that you can use. Many mobile phone users will, for example, use their phone to store this kind of information although many will simply use it to store phone number data.

Computer address book options vary. Some programs work like traditional address books but are simply kept online. These are often used by businesses when they are doing mail shots so that they don’t have to type in data every time they want to send a letter and can do a simple mail merge. But, many people use these systems at home as well.

Many email programs also come with address book facilities. Again, this can be a useful way of storing this data in one place. Although you may simply use the email address part of this system most of the time, it can also be useful to have address information to hand on your computer as you need it.
